Fractured Art Mosaics

" I began experimenting with Mosaics in the winter of 2005. The rich colours and textures drew me in. There is a lovely soothing rhythm to the evolutionary process of mosaic creation from the development of a design, through to the physical cutting of the pieces and the mud pie feel of grouting !"
The Art And Craft Of Creating Mosaics For more than 5000 years people have been using small pieces of ceramic, shell, glass, rock, and other materials to create mosaic works both functional and decorative. The earliest pieces have been found in Mesopotamia, now Iraq.
Fractured Art Mosaics is Sheryl Crowley, a mosaicist living in the Maritimes of Canada. She develops original designs for mosaic works done primarily in glass and ceramic tile. Her pieces range from wall hangings to jeweled boxes, mirrors to sculptural birdhouses, tea trays to game boards. She has worked with children to create mosaic murals and is currently hanging her first show in March 2009.
Mosaics incorporate a richness of colours, textures and materials while also being open to a wide variety of interpretations in expression and technique. It is art both of beauty and enduring strength.
